About this program

In Filbert, the Good Little Fiend, written by Hiawyn Oram and illustrated by Jimmy Liao, too-good-for-his-own-good fiend Filbert is thrown out of school for being too nice. While outside, he runs into delinquent angel Florinda, striking up an unlikely friendship.

As any parent knows, every child has both a “fiend” and an “angel” inside them. In this activity, Li Xin will read aloud Filbert, the Good Little Fiend and hold a discussion between kids and parents on understanding one’s personality. Afterward, the kids will create artworks inspired by their own inner worlds using an air-blow drawing technique.

The Giving Tree Picture Books Series

Each picture book is an artwork created for children. Their illustrations can span a wide range of styles and moods: realism, impressionism, fauvism, surrealism, and so on. Their mediums are just as diverse, from ink wash and pencil to gouache, oil painting, monotype, collage, and printmaking. This UCCA series leads kids into the world of picture books and the unique artistic charms of visual storytelling.
