About this program

Intended for children 3 to 5 years old, the Colorful Picture Book Series uses picture books to help kids take their first step into the world of art.

Mr. Willowby’s Christmas Tree is a touching and philosophical picture book. Mr. Willowby’s Christmas tree is too tall, so he cuts off the top and gives it to the upstairs maid Miss Edna. Miss Edna’s tree is also too tall, so she cuts off the top and continues the cycle of passing on this little bit of Christmas joy. The book teaches children the joy of sharing and, in a roundabout way, how to make the most out of the space you have.

After reading the book, art educator Wang Xuan will teach kids how to make snow globes. Though snow globes provide a tiny space to decorate, their miniature worlds can contain all the joys of winter.

The UCCA Colorful Picture Book Series uses picture books to help children understand how art and illustration can enrich their lives. Through these activities, kids will learn how to use art to express themselves.
