Father Donissan is a zealous rural priest. Disdainful of his more moderate superior, Dean Menou-Segrais, Donissan tries to save the soul of Mouchette, a pregnant teenage girl who accidentally killed one of her lovers. However, Donissan’s feelings for Mouchette begin to complicate their relationship, leading to a struggle between good and evil in this allegorical drama.
Maurice Pialat (b. 1925, Paris), was a French film director, screenwriter, and actor noted for his rigorous and unsentimental style. His work is often described as realist, though many film critics acknowledge that it does not fit the traditional definition of realism. His works have earned him numerous international film awards, and Under the Sun of Satan won the Palme d ‘Or at the 40th Cannes Film Festival.
