The Sanjiangyuan region in the hinterlands of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is home to the headstreams of the Yangtze, Yellow, and Lancang Rivers. It is also the largest, most biologically diverse alpine meadow wetland in China. However, due to global warming, the region’s glaciers are retreating, and recent increases in population and development have exacerbated the problem.

For this lecture, Wang Fangchen of the China Association for Scientific Expedition will discuss the region’s environmental condition and how to protect the the ecology of China’s mother rivers.
