Shirley - Visions of Reality brings to life thirteen paintings by Edward Hopper through the story of an American woman from the 1930s to the early 1960s. The film follows Shirley, a struggling New York actress whose personal and professional travails play out against a background of major political, social, and cultural upheavals: World War II, the atomic bomb, the space race, McCarthyism, the Vietnam War, Duke Ellington and big band swing, Elvis Presley—events, figures, and legends that are inscribed onto the world’s collective memory.
This UCCA Premiere screening marks the film’s debut in mainland China.
