Based on the novel by Li Ang, The Woman of Wrath follows the story of a young girl, Lin Shi, adopted by her uncle after her mother, a victim of rape by the Japanese army, commits suicide. Once grown, Lin is forced to marry the savage butcher Chen, whose sexual impulses leave Lin ill at ease. Enduring torture and hardship, Lin at last kills her husband in a fit of passion but is sentenced to death.
