SYNOPSIS

2006, Pema Tseden, 102 minutes

A young Tibetan monk returns home for the New Year festival. Having spent most of his live in an isolated monastery, the boy is unprepared to deal with the enticements of modern life. He is especially fascinated by television, so he embarks on a journey to bring his family's TV to the monastery to show his master.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Pema Tseden is a writer and director born in 1969 in the ethnically Tibetan region of Amdo (Qinghai province). He is a member of the Chinese Film Directors’ Guild, the China Film Association, and the Chinese Academy of Film Literature. He studied at the Northwest University for Nationalities, the Beijing Film Academy and the Lu Xun College. He holds master’s degrees in literature and art. Since 1991, he has published more than 50 short and medium-length novels, both in Tibetan and Chinese. Some of his works have been translated into English, French, and German. He has won the Tibetan literature prize Drang-char (sbrang-char) and the Rookie award for Chinese Contemporary Ethnic Literature.
