Location:  UCCA Auditorium, Atrium

“The Los Angeles Project” at UCCA marks first time the art of Los Angeles has been comprehensively presented in China. During the exhibition’s opening weekend, UCCA will organize a series of talks by six of the seven participating artists: Kathryn Andrews, Aaron Curry, Alex Israel, Matthew Monahan, Sterling Ruby, and Kaari Upson.

In addition to these artist talks, UCCA will also host a festival dedicated to Los Angeles in film. The program will begin on the opening weekend with the Asia premiere of a new, remastered version of the essay film Los Angeles Plays Itself with writer and director Thom Andersen in attendance. The following day will feature lectures by Andersen and Glenn Phillips, acting head of the Department of Architecture and Contemporary Art at the Getty Museum and curator of the landmark exhibition “California Video” (2008). UCCA will also hold an extensive screening series that explores the depiction of L.A. in film by both local and outsider directors, spanning mainstream Hollywood productions, independent features, and experimental films. The UCCA film screenings are curated by UCCA Public Programs Director Meng Xie.

Public programs related to “The Los Angeles Project” are supported by the U.S. Embassy, Beijing.
