The First Chinese Folk Women Film Festival presents local and international feminist films as a way to spark feminist dialogue in China. The festival calls attention to the depiction of women in film and strengthens awareness of women's issues in China and around the globe.
In cooperation with the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, the festival will feature the China premiere of films from African-American director Julie Dash, Vietnamese director Trinh T. Minh-ha, and the French director Claire Denis. After the screenings, the three directors will participate in a discussion and Q & A session on the depiction of women in film. There will also be a forum held before the screenings to discuss women directors in the global film world.
