About This Program

On the final day of her UCCA exhibition, Taryn Simon will give a talk via video conference on her major body of work A Living Man Declared Dead and Other Chapters I-XVIII. For four years (2008-2011), the artist crossed the globe researching bloodlines and their related stories. Simon will also discuss her earlier projects, such as Contraband (2010), The Innocents (2003), and An American Index of the Hidden and Unfamiliar (2007).

Taryn Simon’s practice consists of three equal elements: photography, text, and graphic design. Through extensive research and sometimes years of preparation, Simon uses photography to explore how individuals relate to and interact with institutions and systems.
