Duo Vela

While their programs aim to transport audiences, the duo are themselves transported, having performed internationally and at major festivals around the USA. Duo Vela have delighted in sharing Western music with Chinese audiences, and Chinese music with Western audiences. Australian music is often featured in their programs, transporting audiences to the outback desert and harsh climates of the Australian wilderness. Argentinian music tells the story of the evolution of the tango, and makes audience's feet itch to dance.

The flute lends itself so naturally to French music, and Duo Vela includes gorgeous French works such as Debussy's Clair de Lune, and Satie's Gymnopedie no. 01 in their repertoire. These and other French classics were featured on their debut album Soirée d'hiver (Winter evening), released in June 2015.

"I love the CD (Soirée d'hiver) - it's beautifully calming - more so than yoga! The first time I heard it, I cried a little. I needed that kind of outlet... Listening to your playing restored me to a plane higher than normal." --- Anon. audience member: Geelong, Australia

Duo Vela are also active in arranging music for flute and guitar, having already arranged Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite. Future planned arrangements include Vivaldi's Four Seasons, and Brahms' Hungarian Dances. Additional expansion of the flute and guitar repertoire is achieved through commissions by leading composers, beginning with acclaimed composer John Anthony Lennon, professor of composition at Emory College in Atlanta, GA.

"Together they create an astoundingly beautiful world of sound"

---Nicholas Goluses: Professor of Guitar, Eastman School of Music

About String-139

In 1723, J.S. Bach was a Kantor at the St. Thomas Church, Leipzig. It was part of his job to perform a church cantata every Sunday and Holiday, related to the readings prescribed by the Lutheran liturgy for the specific occasion. As a true Christian, Bach preferred to conduct his own cantatas, and he composed a new work every week as part of the church service. Three annual cycles of cantatas have survived.

Bach said, "Music's only purpose should be the glory of God and the recreation of the human spirit." On November 12, 1724, Bach finished his No.139 sacred Cantata "Believe in God, God Blesses" (Wohl dem, der sich auf seinen Gott,BWV 139). The name of this Cantata has perfectly described Bach's pure belief and his commitment in accordance with his belief: a Church Musician.

The aim of GuitarW Music Workshop is to fulfill its musical dreams in the classical string music world. Inspired by Bach's commitment to his pure belief, we will present 139 concerts where hundreds of well-known musicians from all over the world will perform in different styles. If you are the person who has the same belief in classical music, please join us. Let's experience the every note of each classy piece, and take a deep breath for a moment, allowing your mind floating in the ocean of melody.
