SMART NGO SERIES: “FOOD AND SUSTAINABILITY” - TALKING ABOUT FOOD, LAND, AND FARMERS AT THE FARMERS' MARKET

2012.6.10
13:30 - 15:30

Conversation
Location:  UCCA Auditorium
Language:  Chinese only.

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

Gorgeous food, slow enjoyment, exquisite taste…What do we talk about when we talk about food? Shall we return to the land, to farmers and to the source of food?

The founder of Country Fair, Michael Eddy, is also an artist, and through art he likes to learn about the relationship between country and city, people and food. The founder of Dandelion Country, Tong Jia, will share with us the laughter and tears of being a farm owner. Hou XueJun, CEO of Green Yard Organic Dairy, and Liu Yang, founder of Le Fromager de Pekin will talk about their way of doing business in the food industry. Liu Yang, a young Beijinger who has achieved notoriety in foreign circles, hopes more Chinese people will grow to understand and appreciate the taste of artisanal cheese, bringing more opportunities and development space to his small handcraft workshop.

You’re also welcome to a small food tasting program right before this talk.
There will be cheese, milk, bread, and summer drinks from local organic farmers.

PARTNERS & SPONSORS

Partner: Country Fair is a farmers’ market run by a group of consumers who are interested in supporting sustainable agriculture. The purpose is to establish a platform which will not only help customers to find safe food products, but also help farmers broaden the market channel, encourage more farmers to engage in organic agriculture, and thereby reduce environmental pollution caused by chemical fertilizer and pesticides while maintaining food safety and practicing fair trade.

It takes place in various locations in Beijing every week. They can be reached at farmersmarketbj@gmail.com, facebook.com/farmersmarketbj, and weibo.com/farmersmarketbj.
