ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

Two The name of the program “Indigo” refers to Intercultural Development In favour of Gender Opportunities. It also refers to a very traditional color in China, which is used since old days in Sichuan, Guizhou, and Hunan province, closely connected with people’s everyday life. Its beauty can only be displayed after being washed over and over again.

Indigo program in China was sponsored by EuropeAid, launched in December 2009, in order to improve the living of people in country side and decrease the number of people who emigrate from country to cities. It combines the aim of presenting traditional Chinese handwork and that of enhancing the living condition of women in remote areas.

INDIGO Program is sponsored by EUropeAid, designed and supervised by Italy COSPE and co-organized by Xiang Yuan You - Association of Poverty Alleviation, China Association of Social Workers, Guizhou Hope Child Health Counseling Center. By means of lessons, trainings, communication and mutual cooperation, it created employment for women in ethnic minority areas (e.g. Qiang, Tujia and Miao) in Sichuan, Hunan and Guizhou, China and improved local livelihood.
On 8th, July, INDIGO Program will partner with UCCA to hold a one day INDIGO program, including on-site handcraft performance, and cultural forum.
