UCCA initiates a new cultural series called “Rebirth of Folk Art” in 2010. Folk arts is not only about the beautiful works crafted by Chinese minorities, it is also deeply rooted within the lives and mindset of minority groups. Chinese traditional folk and minority specialists, artists, travelers, and designers will discuss folk art and highlight its most fascinating aspects. Each talk will reveal how the beauty of Chinese folk art is still alive today, and how it interacts with our present life in an attempt to revitalize traditional folk culture.
Dunhuang is one of the world’s most fascinating places, owing its reputation to the splendour of its ancient painted caves, and to its position as an important Buddhist center on the Silk Road. How can we keep the spirit of Dunhuang and its treasures alive today? Protecting Dunhuang’s legacy and maintaining it as a center of the arts must involve greater public awareness.
Mr. Chang Jiahuang will take us on a tour of the Dunhuang art world, and explores its past, present and future.
