From October 26, 2025, to April 5, 2026, UCCA Dune presents “Kim Lim: Water Rests, Stone Speaks,” an exhibition of the late British-Singaporean artist Kim Lim. Spanning more than thirty years of her practice in sculpture and printmaking, the exhibition explores how Lim investigated materiality, spatial relationships, and the translation between media through form, rhythm, and light. In her work, Kim Lim translates sculptural forms and structural elements into printmaking, allowing prints to become independent and complete visual expressions, while simultaneously revealing the subtle interplay between solidity and lightness, motionless and movement.
On December 6, 2025, UCCA will collaborate with LAZYPRINT printmaking studio for a hands-on workshop, inviting participants to discover how Kim Lim engaged with space through hand-carved plates and printing, and how she conveyed the quiet depth of nature and rhythm through simple forms and colors. This workshop will introduces three printmaking techniques, and participants may choose to attend any single session or register for multiple sessions to experience each technique.
Milk Carton Printmaking draws inspiration from the inner foil layer of recycled milk cartons. Marks and prints can be made directly on the foil surface. This technique transforms everyday materials into printmaking medium, is easy to operate, and serves as an ideal introduction for beginners, offering a very direct way to understand the transformation from material to image in printmaking.
Drypoint printing is an intaglio printmaking techniques in which a stylus is used to incise lines directly onto a plate made of plastic, metal, or other materials. Then, the burrs are created along the edges of the incised lines. When printed, the ink seeps into the grooves, producing a distinctive soft-edged effect on the paper. The drypoint printing process heightens the awareness of carving pressure, line formation, and ink deposition, enabling a two-dimensional surface to convey a unique sense of volume.
Mixed Printmaking combines monotype with other printing techniques and may also incorporate elements of the two techniques mentioned above. Through guided instruction and hands-on practice, participants can experiment with layering different materials, tools, and inks. By repeatedly inking, printing, and wiping, participants will experience printmaking as an experimental medium, exploring the relationships between materials, techniques, and imagery, and creating works that convey fluidity and rhythmic layering.Guannan (LAZYPRINT Printmaking Studio)
