When a childless couple learns that they cannot have children, it causes them immense distress. To ease his wife's pain, the husband finds a stump in the backyard and sculpts it into the shape of a child. However, his wife adopts the wood baby, treating it as real. When the wood child miraculously comes to life, its voracious appetite and unusual behavior attract the attention of their neighbors, throwing the makeshift family into peril.
