Qiu Miaojin is a legendary female writer in Taiwanese literature circles. She was renowned for her sharp wit, her outstanding talent, and her openness and warmth in the pursuit of art and love. Her works Notes of a Crocodile and Letters Written Before Death have become milestones in Taiwanese literary history.
The importance of Qiu as an individual and as an author lies not only in her unique identity, but also in the awakening of a new generation of female writers that made up the context of her work. For the generation that still has the chance to ponder the meaning of love and death, Qiu’s words are not only an instance of classic literature, but also an honest declaration of love and lust.
On the occasion of the first Chinese mainland publication of Qiu Miaojin’s work, we invite several well-known female writers to speak about Qiu Miaojin, female identity, writing, and the joys and pains of it all.
