Over the past century, art historical research, once focused on classic analytics of form and iconography, has followed the increasingly broad spectrum of contemporary art and expanded into the fields of visual culture and anthropology. Author of On Metapainting: a kind of Artistic institution and Universal Cognition, Lu Minjun is joined by Pan He, Shao Yiyang, Yu Runsheng, Wang Yin, Zhang Hui, Yang Beichen, and Song Yi for a discussion contemporary theories of art history and art practice.

Speakers

Pan He

Pan He received a Master’s in Art History from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. He founded the independent library Fengtian Chengwai in 2012 and joined the theater group Fengtian Happy Supermarket in 2013. He now acts as a librarian, translator, and theatrical performer.

Shao Yiyang

With a Ph.D in history of fine arts from University of Sydney, Shao Yiyang is a current professor at the Central Art Academy of Fine Arts. His publications include Chinese Modern Art 1980s&1990s (2005), Post Post-Modernity (2008), and Transcend Post-Modernity (2012).

Yu Runsheng

A current professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Yu Runsheng received a Ph.D from Moscow State University.

Lu Mingjun

Lu Mingjun currently teaches at the College of Arts, Sichuan University and has published several volumes including Visual Perception and Art History: Foucault, Damisch and Crary among others.

An acclaimed publisher with a Ph.D in Chinese Literature from Nanjing University, Yang Quanqiang acts as academic director of Shanghe Zhuoyuan Cultural Group.
