About the Film

Hamlet

Director: Lyndsey Turner

Starring: Benedict Cumberbatch

Runtime: 220 min.

Academy Award® nominee Benedict Cumberbatch (BBC's Sherlock, The Imitation Game, Frankenstein at the National Theatre) takes on the title role of Shakespeare's great tragedy, directed by Lyndsey Turner (Posh, Chimerica) and produced by Sonia Friedman Productions. As a country arms itself for war, a family tears itself apart. Forced to avenge his father's death but paralysed by the task ahead, Hamlet rages against the impossibility of his predicament, threatening both his sanity and the security of the state.

Othello

Director: Nicholas Hytner

Starring: Adrian Lester, Rory Kinnear

Runtime: 212 min.

Olivier Award-winning actor Adrian Lester (Henry V at the National Theatre, BBC's Hustle) takes the title role.

Playing opposite him as the duplicitous Iago is fellow Olivier Award-winner Rory Kinnear (The Last of the Haussmans, James Bond: Skyfall), who is reunited with director Nicholas Hytner (Timon of Athens, One Man, Two Guvnors) following their acclaimed collaboration on the National Theatre's recent production of Hamlet.

Othello, newly married to Desdemona – who is half his age – is appointed leader of a major military operation. Iago, passed over for promotion by Othello in favour of the young Cassio, persuades Othello that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair.

Director: Sam Mendes

Starring: Simon Russell Beale

Runtime: 216 min.

Academy Award® winner Sam Mendes (James Bond: Skyfall, American Beauty) returns to the National Theatre to direct Simon Russell Beale (Timon of Athens, Collaborators) in the title role of Shakespeare's tragedy.
