Ming Wong's recent works are derived from his ongoing research into the modernization on Cantonese opera, the archeology of science-fiction, and French New Wave films. For this conversation, we have invited science fiction writers Wu Yan, whose works have had a profound influence on Ming Wong, and Chen Qiufan to discuss the influence and relationship between this popular genre and contemporary art.

Speakers

Wu Yan (Professor, Beijing Normal University)

Professor of the School of Chinese Language and Literature of Beijing Normal University, Wu Yan has been a long-term science fiction author and researcher. His publications include the novels Exploring the Deep Soul (1994), In the Sixth Day—Life or Death (1996); the anthologies Exodus (2003) and Mouse Pad (2012); and the scholarly works Introduction to Science Fiction (2006), Theories and Frameworks of Science Fiction Studies (2008), and Critical Outlines of Science Fiction (2011).

Chen Qiufan (Science Fiction Writer)

Chen Qiufan is an amateur Science Fiction writer whose works have been translated into different languages and won multiple awards in China and overseas. His published works include: The Waste Tide, Thin Code, and the forthcoming Future Disease.
