"Kentridge in Parallel" is a series of screenings running throughout the exhibition at UCCA that puts the artist's works into conversation with historical, formal, and social referents.

William Kentridge's works bear traces of his childhood in apartheid-era South Africa. Many of his animations reflect what he saw and felt when he was young, living in the same house where he now has his studio. The Czech director Jan Svankmajer also attaches importance to how boyhood affects a person in his films. Most of his works share the same themes: the memory of childhood and the admiration of kids. Through the works of William Kentridge and Jan Svankmajer, here we explore memories of childhood through film.
