INTEL AND VICE'S THE CREATORS PROJECT RETURNS TO BEIJING FOR A THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR WITH ITS GROUNDBREAKING ARTS AND TECHNOLOGY FESTIVAL

2012.9.8 - 2012.9.9

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

Beijing, China – August 27th, 2012 – The Creators Project, Intel and VICE’s worldwide arts and technology campaign dedicated to empowering emerging and leading artists who are using technology to push the bounds of creative expression, announces today its most expansive arts and technology extravaganza in Beijing. After hosting cultural festivals in San Francisco, Paris, and Sao Paulo in 2012, The Creators Project revisits Beijing on September 7th, 8th, and 9th to launch the fourth leg in its annual global event series. The event will feature a marquee lineup of live performances and Studio works by technology, audio, and visual artists, in close collaboration with Intel and its engineers. During the three-day festival, The Creators Project will transform the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in the 798 District into an interactive and visual cultural hub, showcasing the cross-section between art and technology for thousands of guests.

Musical performances will feature local musicians including FM3, the pioneers of electronic music in China, Duck Fight Goose, the Shanghai-based experimental rock band, and CNdY, a house and techno-based group from Beijing. In addition, US band The Chromatics, indie rock group Real Estate, and former LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy will perform at the event.

The festival will showcase a number of global artworks and installations, including Chinese fashion designer Vega Zaishi Wang's projection-driven installation presenting her new clothing line in conjunction with technology art collective UFO and musician Zhang Shouwang. The event will host the China debut of Chris Milk’s “The Treachery of Sanctuary,” a large-scale interactive triptych, powered by viewers with the help of motion-sensing Kinetics. Other installations include Intel Labs and Social Print Studio’s “#Creators# Live” – a work that aggregates real-time Instagram photos and allows visitors to interact with them in gesture-based movements, as well as Brazilian artist SuperUber’s “OctoCloud,” and works by Chinese artists Kong LingNan, Yang YongLiang, UFO and Lou NanLi (aka B6).

The Beijing 2012 Creators Project will present interactive creative workshops, panel discussions, and film screenings from the best in art, digital media, film, and technology, including the China premiere of the LCD Soundsystem documentary, “Shut Up and Play The Hits.” Such panels and workshops will take place during the weekend throughout the event.

The Creators Project launched in 2010 to inspire emerging and leading artists to continue to push the limits of creative expression through technology. In 2011, The Studio was unveiled, a global workspace that produces and distributes works from artists representing a cross-section of creative disciplines.
