UCCA Art Cinema kicks off a new iteration of the celebrated “Filmmaker in Focus” series in 2013 with filmmaker Lü Yue.
Born in 1957, Lü Yue is widely acknowledged as one of the most important cinematographers of the “Fifth Generation” of Chinese cinema. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography for Zhang Yimou’s film Shanghai Triad (1995), and served as cinematographer for Feng Xiaogang’s hit of the year, Back to 1942 (2012).
