ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

Over the past few years, the Chinese box office has been continually breaking all records whilst simultaneously, there has been a nationwide boom of cinema construction. Hollywood and China have combined on an ever increasing number of projects but there is little trace of films that have artistic value, an investigative intention or that strive to represent the present day situation. Yang Cheng, the general manager of Heaven Pictures who have recently been focused on domestic artistic film creation; the director Nai An, who for some time has cooperatively been producing films with Luo An; the director Li Ruijun and the programme manager of the Bai Lao Hui Art-house Cinema Center, Yang Yang, have all been invited to the UCCA filmmakers forum. From the perspectives of creation, investment, production and, national and international distribution, the aim of the forum will be to cast light on the current state of the Chinese art-house cinema and to investigate the opportunities and challenges that lay ahead.
