Field of Dogs
2014, Lech Majewski, Poland, 96 minutes
Following his wondrous interpretation of the painterly world of Bruegel in The Mill and the Cross, Majewski tackles another contemporary story that evokes the Middle Ages. In a modern retelling of Dante’s classic, Adam escapes his soul-numbing job in a retail emporium and enters a realm of surreal dreams. The collapse of his private world resonates with international cataclysms, from the weather to the death of the Polish president. His compassionate, philosophical aunt becomes his Virgil, guiding him through the dark night in a masterfully crafted narrative. Field of Dogs was previously screened as part of the 2014 Moscow International Film Festival.
