Location:  Workshop
Language:  English and Chinese

From 30 April to 1 May 2017, UCCA invites Beijing Contact Improvisation senior dance instructor Zeng Zijian for a workshop, where she will share her knowledge about this unique dance form with art enthusiasts. The workshop welcomes participants who are interested in dance as an art form. Zeng will instruct you to explore how touch, a sense so closely tied to the body, is employed in contact improvisation.

Contact Improvisation (CI) is an open-ended exploration of the kinesthetic possibilities of bodies moving through contact. Sometimes wild and athletic, sometimes quiet and meditative, it is a form of improvised dancing open to bodies and enquiring minds of all abilities. CI is a form of expression built upon an extended list of traditions, including contemporary dance, postmodern methods of composition, Chinese wushu, and Japanese aikido. It emphasizes physical interaction and improvised dialogue. Points of physical contact provide the starting point for exploration through improvised movement. In this workshop, participants will explore how to apply the sense of touch to contact improvisation dance. You will be invited to connect with the body of your dance partner.
