About this Program

Intended for children 3 to 5 years old, the Colorful Picture Book Series uses picture books to help kids take their first steps into the world of art.

The Nian is an ancient beast from Chinese mythology. No one knows the exact form of the Nian, making it even more mysterious and dreadful. In this activity, art educator Wang Xuan will read the picture book Nian and discuss Chinese New Year traditions. Kids will also make a “New Year’s Dinner” out of light clay.

The UCCA Colorful Picture Book Series uses picture books to help children understand how art and illustration can enrich their lives. Through these activities, kids will learn how to use art to express themselves.

Instructor

Wang Xuan has worked in children’s art education for several years. By observing children working with art, she aims to find new ways to help children explore the visual world.
