UCCA Beijing

Collage an Imaginary Urban Life

2015.3.21
14:00-16:30

Workshops
Location:  UCCA Workshop
Language:  Chinese Only

With direction from artist Liu Wei, let’s jointly start the engine of urban imagination by depicting an alternative, imaginary city through collage!

“Purple Air” is one of Liu Wei’s most popular painting series. It’s simple and planar images make us feel the dynamics of a city with order and vitality, showing us something akin to the real and the virtual, vibrant yet with many problems. Liu Wei teaches us how to use more than ten food materials and pigments to make the special urban scene in our hearts.

Art Teacher

Liu Wei (Artist)

Liu Wei (b. 1972, Beijing) is one of the most important artistic voices of his generation. Coming from the heated conceptual climate of the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou during the 1990s and a key member of the late 1990s “Post-Sense Sensibility” formation, Liu Wei has gone on in the past decade to pioneer an artistic language all his own. Based on a fastidious combination of elements abstract and concrete, Chinese and universal, his practice addresses the new ways of seeing and knowing made possible in contemporary China. Present throughout his practice is a unique sense of how juxtapositions of objects and materials create meanings, and of how objects placed in space structure viewers’ experiences.
