How to tell a story in a mere ten minutes? What is the best way to capture today’s emotional undercurrents in moving images? Short films offer endless possibilities to these questions. The Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) collaborates with JIA SCREEN to present a short films showcase consisting of 26 titles from seventeen countries that have previously traveled to eighteen renowned international film festivals. These films are stylistically distinct, spanning experimental, fiction, essay film, animation, and documentary in genre. The program is composed of seven chapters: “Eventually Getting Used to Everything,” “A Lover’s Discourse,” “Poetry and Philosophy,” “Memory is Wet,” “Exclusively Chinese,” “Stardom and Quiet Nights,” and “JIA SCREEN Specials.” JIA SCREEN hopes to gather emerging directors, critics, and cinephiles for a splendid summer party in the name of short films: “We are meddling with time through short films, raising our fists toward a dull, noisy world.”
