Gao Yuan was the first female photographer in the Chinese rock music scene. She began photographing bands at age 19, and has now photographed nearly every major Chinese rock and indie band. Although many people are familiar with her photography, few know about her interest in jewelry design, which began when she was a young girl: she designed her first piece of jewelry at age 14, and later started the independent design brand “Yuan.” In this latest edition of UCCA’s China New Design Series, Gao Yuan will illustrate how her visual experience In photography complemented her jewelry design, and vice versa.
