Patricio Guzman returns to Santiago to find the same characters of the Battle of Chile, which was made 23 years before. The personages slowly emerge from the last known shades: for example Uncle Guzman (Ignacio) the person who kept at his home the coils of The Battle of Chile, saving them from its destruction. The viewers are witness of the revival of the collective memory when a gang of young people cross the streets of Santiago center singing the hymn of Salvador Allende "Venceremos". Later at an old auto repair shop, Guzman found Allende's bodyguards. For first time they dare to speak in public. Finally, the Director starts the searching of young people who have not lived the government coup. For this purpose, Guzman show the Battle of Chile in four secondary schools and two universities. An intense emotion seizes them. The painter José Balmes concludes with this wise idea: "memory and oblivion make us suffer and die, but we also make us live."
