ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

In this talk, Tainan National University of the Arts professor Song-yong Sing will discuss how the concept of “post-film” has sparked new ideas and practice in the world of visual art and Chinese film.

“Post-film” has had a significant impact on filmmaking and those working in associated fields, with many new artists and innovative works in recent years. Tracing the evolution of this new filmic form, it’s clear that technology is not the central factor in its development. One important new direction in film is the exploration of certain “film issues” that have emerged in the cinema system since the 1960s, such as experimental film and artistic intervention using video.

Of course, this type of video art is still most clearly delineated by its confinement to the realm of the art gallery, with artists, directors, and curators incorporating different filmic forms into multimedia works and exhibitions. Through their explorations, these art practitioners have created a new formal aesthetic.
