A Prophet

2010, 155′, Jacques Audiard, French dialogue

Sentenced to 6 years in prison, 18-year-old Malik El Djebena doesn’t know how to read or write. Younger and more fragile than the other convicts, he falls under the thumb of a group of Corsican mobsters who control the prison. Malik quickly learns the ins-and-outs of the social hierarchy and earns the gang’s trust by carrying out “missions.”
Malik starts using his newfound privileges to conduct his own business, putting him on a collision course with the prison’s de facto rulers.
