8000 square meters. Containing two floors.
Design: Transformation of an old industrial building to a modern and fashionable building.

The interior design is based on the fundamental qualities of the industrial building, containing two halls running from south to north. Stripped back to its original structure, the factory now shows off its perfect proportions and the ntegrity of its original industrial space. Large concrete gantries support the structure and the dominant brick chimney rises 50 meters above, so becoming the symbolic building in the 798 Art District. The main interior color is white with dark grey and the main materials are iron, stainless steel and glass so enhancing the nature and aesthetic of original building through the central-axis of the building.

The light-modulation and sky-venting systems

When the sunlight comes out in the morning, the blinds react. Natural light coming through the center of the roof is controlled and diffused on both sides of the central axis of the halls. Linked to gradual, indirect lighting, the full lighting system allows the vast space to be flooded with controlled light.

The electric system is supported by UPS and ensures electricity 24 hours a day. Displayed artworks are stored in an unusual space, where the air-condition system is controlled by an automated system that guarantees constant temperature and humidity control. The state of the art security system ensures the safety of all artworks throughout the building.

UCCA Space Introduction

UCCA: Super Fengshui

Throughout the interior and exterior of the building, UCCA is paying tribute to the work of leading and emerging Chinese artists by dedicating its entire space to their creations: from the entrance to the café, lobby and store, artists works are being displayed, extending the duration of presentations also shown in the exhibition halls. We call this semi-permanent program Super Fengshui.

Exhibition Halls
The Big Hall is over 2,500 square meters in size, and can be divided into multiple spaces. The Middle Room is the most specialized space and will be used to display specific art works. The White Cube and the Black Box are specially designed for creative exhibitions and will host a new series entitled "Curated By." This series will present exciting young Chinese artists under the tutelage and curatorial guidance of established Chinese artists.

AUDITORIUM
Located near the chimney at the far end of the Nave, the Auditorium will show experimental films, documentaries and other cinematic works. The hall is equipped with the highest quality audio-visual systems and incorporates simultaneous translation facilities. With a capacity of 130 visitors the Auditorium is utilized for public lectures, conferences and seminars as well as cinema screenings and video programs.

LA SUITE and SALON
The "La Suite" and "Salon" spaces are on the second floor and make suitable venues for conferences, corporate meetings, and other events. Audio visual facilities linked to the UCCA Auditorium are available.

UCCASTORE
Located near the entrance and the Lobby on the first floor, UCCAStore is always accessible during regular UCCA hours and has no entry charge. The store offers a wide range of souvenirs including posters, T-shirts, stationery, bags and books.

UCCAStore limited edition prints and artworks created by today's most important Chinese artists are primarily new and unique pieces, produced and sold by UCCA under an exclusive license. These high quality limited edition artworks are both affordable and great investments. Revenue generated from the sale of these limited edition artworks is used to support UCCA's arts and educational programs.

CAFÉ & RESTAURANT
A contemporary place to relax during the day; the UCCA Café is at the back of the first main hall behind the Nave. UCCA will also soon welcome the addition of a restaurant, "Super Ganbei", to our space. Multifunctional, upscale, and at the same time relaxed, "Super Ganbei" will be suitable for everyone — from business crowds to creators and artists. It will cater to private diners and larger gatherings, and will offer all-day service of Chinese and Western cuisine. At night, Super Ganbei will transform into a lounge, complete with DJ's performing. The UCCA restaurant will be fully integrated with the rest of the activities of the center and will regularly invite special artists to showcase their creations within the space.
