The Nordic Documentary Film Festival (NORDOX), established in 2006, is an annual event featuring outstanding documentary films with a Nordic perspective and style.

Dream Worlds presents unique perspectives from eight leading Australian artists on timeless themes of intimacy, isolation and the imaginary. Forged on a vast island continent embraced by the sea, these dreamy realms will be on public display on the spectacular 27-meter outdoor media screen in Beijing’s Sanlitun Village.

UCCA Children’s Reading Workshop presents two new series—(1) Understanding Art Through Books and (2) Author/Illustrator Readings—designed to help children better understand art, learn to love reading and harness their artistic talent through books.

Accessories designer Zhang Xiaochuan will display and discuss her own designs, talk about different design techniques and ideas, and examine the concept of luxury for China’s new generation. Audiences will gain an overview of the whole process of creating great accessories, from the early design stage and material selection to final production.

In conjunction with the Golden Sky exhibition, UCCA invites Yu Hong to share her experiences and feelings about Dunhuang, in China’s Gansu Province. This is an excellent chance for audiences to gain insight into Yu Hong’s work and learn more about the history and charms of Dunhuang.

In an age when society demands that poetry “raise its voice”, what lies ahead for contemporary Taiwanese poetry and poets? In this event, moderator Liu Waitong and Taiwanese author Zhang Tiezhi will discuss everything from rock lyrics to the poetry of Shang Qin, Hong Hong, Xia Yu and Wu Yuening.

Creative studio Triple-Major invited 31 designers from 13 different countries to transform and redefine the basic white t-shirt. From a t-shirt made of 2000 marshmallows to a t-shirt designed for a horse, participating designers challenged the boundaries of  fashion through the classic white t-shirt.

In his use of unusual materials such as incense ash, ox-hide and feathers, Zhang Huan demonstrates his bold imagination, artistic genius and mastery of materials. The short documentary film Zhang Huan Studio 2007 reveals the process behind Zhang Huan’s artwork and gives us a glimpse into the inner workings of his sprawling, factory-sized studio in Shanghai.

From July to December, 2010, UCCA and Ju Percussion Group from Taiwan will present a series of lectures for children about percussion instruments. Learn about traditional and modern percussion instruments and techniques from master percussionist Wu Huizhen.

This new book reveals his past experience in the twenty years, and classic criticism to some big figures in rock n roll and fine art kingdoms.

Indie film forum presents Li Hongqi’s latest feature Winter Vacation which picked up the top prize Golden Leopard at Locarno Film festival (2010) and The Red Chameleon Award of the Cinema Digital Seoul Festival (2010).

The topic of “Wave” Series 5 is Voyeurism and the Opposite of Sex. This philosophical experiment by the WAVE community combines art performance, democratic drama in a public space and Restroom, a work of video art by female artist Cui Youwen.

There will be an exhibition opening on Sunday, Sept. 12th, from 14:00 to 15:00 pm. The exhibition will run until Sunday, Sept. 26th, 2010.

Fashion designer Mei Yuan is known for incorporating elements of the natural world into her delicate silk scarves, jewelry and accessories. In her workshop at UCCA, she will help children to design soft cloth dolls as “bedtime buddies.” Patterns, fabric and other materials will be provided.

Indie Film Forum presents Fortune Teller, a feature-length documentary by director Xu Tong. The film was awarded the Jury Prize at the recent 7th China Documentary Film Festival in Songzhuang.

Hua Dan is a Beijing-based social enterprise that uses the power of participation in theatre as a tool for personal and social transformation. Hu Dan has a particular focus in using techniques to explore a range of social issues in China, such as rural to urban migration, women’s issues, psycho-social rehabilitation of Sichuan earthquake victims, and creative education for children. 

UCCA Art Cinema presents outdoor summer screenings of two masterpieces of filmmaking history: Playtime by Jacques Tati and Breathless by Jean-Luc Godard. Watching these 35 mm film classics in 798 Creative Square under the stars is the perfect antidote to Beijing’s summer heat.
